Catholic Worker “Fellowship” Garden

It is in fact impossible
for any culture
to be sound and healthy
without a proper regard
for the soil,
no matter
how many urban dwellers
think that their food
comes from groceries
and delicatessens
or their milk from tin cans.

-Peter Maurin, co-founder of the Catholic Worker Movement (from his Easy Essay, "Regard for the Soil")

2025 Growing Season

Crops (in order of planting): Onions, garlic, carrots, potatoes, spinach, lettuce, radishes, cabbage, broccoli, squash/zucchini, pumpkins, winter squash, sweet potatoes, peppers, tomatoes

Thank you to all who helped during our spring planting season! During the summer, we will meet on the third Saturday of each month (June 21st, July 19th, August 16th). If you are interested in volunteering, please send us an email at romerocatholicworker@gmail.com or text Mattie at (817)-964-6535.

We are striving to garden and grow food as stewards of the land and soil life, working with natural systems rather than imposing our own. We do this through various means: covering bare soil with mulches and cover crops; intercropping to mimic (and encourage!) natural biodiversity; and increasing organic matter in the soil with a diversity of living roots (grasses, broadleafs, legumes as cover crops and food crops). This season we are focusing on building up the soil through amendments such as leaf mulch, horse manure, rabbit pellets, and straw, which means that we have disturbed the soil more than we will in future seasons.
