What We Believe
The Romero Catholic Worker follows the principles of the Catholic Worker Movement founded by Peter Maurin and Dorothy Day. We believe in the teachings of the Catholic Church and recognize that without a firm foundation in prayer and the Sacraments, our efforts are in vain. We are not an organization, we are an organism. A group of people who follow the manifesto of Matthew 25 and the Beatitudes.
We believe in establishing Houses of Hospitality to welcome in the poor and Farming Communes to reconnect our lives with the land. We believe in building up a local economy in opposition to globalism and unbridled capitalism. We believe in encouraging Round-Table Discussions for clarification of thought and for the distribution of ideas long intertwined with the Church Fathers and the Early Church.
What We Do
We are currently hoping to establish two Houses of Hospitality in Wichita. One for women and one for men. At these Houses, we hope to offer shelter to our unhoused brothers and sisters, and to have an Open Living Room, a place for people to share a meal, grab a cup of coffee, wash their clothes, take a shower, build friendships, and pray together.
We also hope to establish an Urban Garden in Wichita focused on providing food for our Houses of Hospitality as well as the surrounding community. We know how hard it is for people to access clean, locally grown food, especially for those on the street or in unstable housing.
